Atmos 561: Temperature Powered Clock

Designed by Mark Newson and created by Jaeger LeCoultre, Atmos 561 Clock - is entirely powered by changes of temperature, so you don’t need battery or wind-it-up.

Wonder how it works? The clock get its power on its crystal case that contains gas and liquid ethyl chloride. When the temperature rises, the gas/chloride mix expands and compresses a spiral spring in a chamber, and when the temperature falls, the gas condenses and triggered the spring to loosen up.

According to Watchismo the Atmos 561 just need a change of 1 degree Celsius to get 2 days worth of winding power. Whooahh.. isn’t it cool? What if you put it on the oven over 100 degree Celsius temperature and put it inside the freezer? Don’t you think the clock will explode?
